bus

The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour bus came to campus on Monday, March 30th. This event was funded by grants from the Coleman Foundation and the Kern Family Foundation.

It was a very successful day. All who attended received some great information from the two keynote speakers on 'how they did it', the Action Workshop, and the panel discussion of entrepreneurs at the close of the day.

On Wednesday, April 1 the second annual Student Entrepreneurship Fair was held in the Ridgway University Center from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Wrapping up the week on Friday, April 3 was the Evansville New Venture Creation Competition where 23 student teams from all over the U.S. and Canada competed for over $12,000 in prizes. There were five teams from UE in the competition. The student team that took the top prize of $10,000 was J & J Solutions from Iowa City, IA. The company has developed a fully-vetted, patent pending prototype for the effective, efficient, and affordable handling of chemotherapy drugs in a clinic, hospital, pharmacy and research setting.

Former UE Student Returns to Lecture at International Speaker Series on April 16

makawa

James Makawa is a former UE student and soccer player - he is also a co-founder of the Africa Channel. Originally from Zimbabwe, Mr. Makawa is one of the few executives from Sub-Saharan Africa to have enjoyed a successful career in both local and network television in the United States. His career spans decades and continents beginning with local news, moving to NBC as a news correspondent in New York and Chicago, returning to South Africa where he co-founded the African Broadcast Network, then back to the US to co-found the Africa Channel.

The Africa channel showcases the continent's most outstanding English language television series, documentaries, feature films, music, event specials, biographies, soap operas, current business analysis, cultural and historical programs. His goal was to create a station for shows that reflects the people of Africa - their incredible stories, daily lives, music and art, successes, celebrations, and challenges. You can visit the Africa channel at theafricachannel.com.

Join us to hear Mr. Makawa speak at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 in Eykamp Hall. This event is free and open to the public. .
