Here Comes the Judge
In an effort to help students learn how to analyze cases for future presentations, Dr. Montgomery’s Marketing 492 students were given a case to analyze in groups. The students were quite surprised when the honorable Judge Blalock (Dr. Blalock in disguise) came strutting into the classroom in black gown and white wig to the tune of Shorty White's (Motown 1968) rendition of "Here Comes the Judge" blaring in the background. Each student group had 10 minutes to present their case to "Judge Blalock". The winning group of Lindsey Bell, Amber Lee, Rachel Robinson, and Adrienne Hagedorn claimed the grand prize of a round of $5 foot longs at the local Subway. Eat Fresh!

UE Students Train with the Pacers
Dr. Montgomery’s students in Marketing 373 (Personal Selling) went to Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on February 3 for a day of sales training with the Indiana Pacers sales staff. After training and a tour of Conseco Fieldhouse, students were treated to an Indiana Cultural Event - basketball. The Minnesota Timberwolves pulled out an exciting 116-111 victory over the Pacers in the closing seconds of the ball game. Students are selling Pacer tickets as a hands-on method of learning personal selling. The student who sells the most tickets will get to interview for a sales representative position with the Pacers.

The research of Dr. Rosen and Dr. Don Kluemper of Louisiana State University was featured in a Courier & Press article on January 25, 2009. The article titled "Putting Face on Workers: UE study finds Facebook page can ID good hire," focuses on the validation of using Facebook pages as a screening tool by organizations. Drs. Rosen and Kluemper were able to show a link between the personality, intelligence, and academic performance of subjects and the ratings that an outsider would give for these attributes on the basis of only a view of the subject’s Facebook page. The study will appear in the Journal of Managerial Psychology. The Courier & Press article can be found online here. |
