Trent Bridge always welcomes first-time visitors with open arms - and this week saw some unusual faces in the crowd from more than 3,000 miles away.

Around 50 American students got a taste of Trent Bridge, and their first look at a professional cricket match, on a visit to the region during the Championship match with Durham.

The group from Harlaxton College, University of Evansville, Indiana are in Nottingham as part of a ten-day stay in the East Midlands.

Peter Rosen, a professor in Management Information Systems, said: “I had heard of cricket before but this is the first time I have ever been to a cricket ground and I must say I’ve been really impressed. The pitch is beautiful, it’s so well manicured.”

The students and staff were staying in Grantham but were in West Bridgford as part of a day of sightseeing in Nottingham.

Greg Rawski, a professor of management at the university, said he was impressed by the cultural and historical significance of Trent Bridge.

“There is so much history to the game of cricket in this country and that is clear from the tour of the ground - to have photographs going back to the 19th Century is really amazing,” he said.

“In America baseball is a similar type of sport but we don’t have any stadiums with the history and culture of Trent Bridge.

“And from a business point of view I was impressed with the meeting rooms in the Trent Bridge Cricket Centre. This is a great facility and the ground must be a fantastic place to do business.”
