Accounting Professor Awarded Exemplary Teacher Award at UE

Approximately 50 degrees were presented to UE students today during the University’s annual Winter Commencement Exercise.

Christine McKeag, assistant professor of accounting, was awarded the Exemplary Teacher Award of the United Methodist Church. Each year, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church offers the award to recognize excellence in teaching at United Methodist Church-related institutions of higher education.

McKeag came to UE in November 1977 and has served the University in various capacities during her tenure, including lecturer, instructor, assistant professor and a one-year stint as the assistant dean of the School of Business Administration from 1996-1997. From 1996 to 2005, McKeag was also instrumental in developing a culture of assessment at UE as the director of assessment for the University during the past eight years. She is a member of numerous UE boards and committees and has played instrumental roles on the self study team for the University’s North Central Association accreditation process, as well as the School of Business Administration’s AACSB accreditation.

McKeag is a past president of the Southern Indiana Chapter of the Indiana CPA Society, and is a member of the Indiana CPA Society’s Governmental Relations committee, the Institute of Management Accountants and the American Accounting Association. McKeag has been active in the local community, and is a member of the board and serves as the treasurer of the United Methodist Youth Home, and has served as a member of the board and treasurer for the local Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA); as well as an elder of Eastminster Presbyterian Church - where she also serves on the finance/operations committee. McKeag has also served as a financial consultant for the Washington Avenue Center.

During her time at UE, she has received the Outstanding Young Woman of America Award, has been named the Delta Sigma Pi Professor of the Year and received the Dean’s Teaching Award in 2003.

McKeag holds a BS degree from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a certified public accountant, a certified management accountant and a certified financial manager.
