University of Evansville: The Schroeder School of Business Administration

Message from the Dean

Dear Friends:
As we move through the summer semester, I want to take a moment to provide you with a brief update of news happenings within the School of Business Administration. As you might imagine much of the news stems from the December 2003 award of $15 million to the University from the Lilly Endowment Inc. This generous grant reflects the high quality of the University’s academic environment. The grant will have transformational benefits for the University by enabling the University to achieve the following two critical goals:

Goal 1: Transform the University of Evansville's School of Business Administration

  • Create a focus on excellence in global business within the School of Business Administration
  • Establish a model program with active learning environments, including global business internships, entrepreneurial student teams and living case studies to develop adaptive learners
  • Develop outreach activities for the business community and their global employees, including an international speaker’s series, export training seminars, internships and continuing education programs, in Evansville, at Harlaxton College or other global sites

Goal 2: Enhance the international competitiveness of Indiana businesses through education, research and service support

  • Create the Institute for Global Enterprise in Indiana to serve as a resource center and business incubator for the regional business community
  • Collaborate with both governmental and corporate development departments to assist Indiana businesses in engaging in new business development and the expansion of existing businesses to more effectively compete in a global environment and create more employment opportunities
  • Create community outreach and training activities that enhance the region’s development of intellectual capital, which will include an Institute Advisory Board with senior business leaders in the region

To accomplish these goals we have redesigned our curriculum to include more experiential opportunities, including stronger internship and entrepreneurial experiences, enhancing the campus technology infrastructure, organizing a summer program in Harlaxton for first/second year business students, and engaging in community outreach activities. These initiatives will benefit all of the University of Evansville’s students, but particularly business students.

In addition, in December 2003 the University received an additional $750,000 grant from the Lilly Endowment to strengthen its Career Services area. We are particularly interested in working with the University's strong alumni and parent base to develop internship and permanent position opportunities for our students. If you are interested in hosting a student intern, please contact me at (812) 488-2851, or by e-mail at rc60@evansville.edu.

It is an exciting time to be studying business at the University of Evansville! These initiatives are part of our ongoing commitment to excellence in business education. We appreciate your support for these efforts and invite you to become involved.

Sincerely yours,

Robert A. Clark, Ph.D., CFA
